Very impressed
When it comes to buying technology I tend to have exacting standards and I like to do a fair amount of research before I commit myself. Top of my list of requirements is product quality, and this phone has not disappointed. It is easy to use, robust, good looking and does what it sets out to do efficiently. Setting it up was easy. The menu system, similar to that of a mobile phone, is clear and easy to use. Its range of features is extensive but not bewildering : in short it does everything I could want it to with no unnecessary bells or whistles. It works smoothly with BTs range of additional services such as Caller Display and Call Waiting. Sound quality when making a call (an important factor for me) is not quite as sharp as you would get from a traditional phone, but I assume this is common to all digital telephones and the slight loss of clarity is more than compensated for by the freedom to take calls anywhere. The handsets and their bases are well-designed : there are no fiddly little buttons and the receiver is big enough to sit comfortably in the hand without being bulky. Battery life is excellent.

So why didnt I give it 5 stars? I would have done so if the quality of sound when replaying the answering machine had been better and if it had space for more than 15 minutes of incoming messages. As far as I am concerned, these are its only weaknesses. In all other respects, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this phone without reservation.

One point to note, if this is your first digital phone. Dont throw away all your old telephones. Youll need one if you have to contact the emergency services during a power cut!

Excellent phone - only very minor gripes
I was looking for a new DECT phone (to replace by 3 year old Phillips Onis) that had the minimum of the following criteria: (i) handsfree; (ii) answerphone; and (iii) long range. I had problems with the Phillips (it kept cutting out, even though I changed the batteries), so decided to look at BT. I couldnt find any reviews of the 5250, so "went out on a limb" (it was a choice between that and the older BT Synergy 3500).

I am glad that I did - the 5250 fulfilled my minimum requirements and much more. To start off, it looks great (the pictures dont do it justice). The handsets are small (but not too small), the display large (but not too large) and the clarity is excellent. The phone and answering machine are fairly simple to use - the phone operates in a similar way to mobile phones (I have a Nokia mobile and found adjusting to the BT menu style very easy). The added bonus is the SMS facility, which is handy to have (unless you always leave your mobile phone on at home).

The reasons for 4 stars rather than 5 stars are the following: (i) the address books are not shared between handsets, so you have to enter friends and familys numbers into EACH handset; (ii) the SMS service is a little unreliable (sometimes I send text messages from my mobile and they are not received until a few days later); (iii) to send a message to the phone, you have to send it to a different telephone number, with your home number written into the body of the text message; and (iv) the ringing tones are a bit naff.
